According to an anecdote, in the mid-eighteenth century lived in the city the marriage of José Merino and Doña Manuela de Arce. Some day, and by a fit of jealousy, the wife attempted to slash José Merino on three occasions. However, at the same time that the attacks occurred, an image of the Lady of the Pillar was beginning to wiggle which prevented the murder. Virgen del Pilar Church (San Vicente) .JPG was in the last attempt that Manuela regained trial.12Due to the event, don José command build a chapel in honor of the virgin, but he did not see the finished work by his death. It would be his wife who would continue the construction. Finally, the hermitage became at the hands of don Francisco Quintanilla who built a temple more sumptuous that was begun in 1762 and premiered in 1769. However, Quintanilla he died two years before its termination
On 4 March 1838 were buried in the interior of the temple the remnants of the Procer Salvadoran José Simeón Canas.13 church was declared a National Monument in February 1953. In the first decade of the twenty-first century, was subject to repairs in their structure due to the damage caused by the passage of time and the earthquakes of 2001.
